REVIEW OF ALFREDO RUBIO TERIYAKI MADNESS GARNER NC

INTRODUCTORY ASSESSMENT OF MR. ALFREDO RUBIO TERIYAKI MADNESS GARNER NC:

The following is a detailed account of my experience with Mr Alfredo Rubio of Teriyaki Madness located at 160 Shenstone Blvd, Garner, NC 27529.  Also there is link at the bottom of this review to a video recording of a brief portion of this encounter, so you can see for yourself how this individual  behaves and conducts himself as a so called business professional. Before getting into the details I’ll go ahead and give you my assessment of this individual. Based on my observation and experience he is unprofessional and has no clue how to provide quality customer service, nor does he know how to properly treat his customers when issues arise.

I feel this is an individual who has been a Chef for many years, and he just recently moved into the arena of owning his own restaurant, hence the unprofessional nature in dealing with customers. The food itself actually tastes good, however his professional business nature is lacking and mysteriously disturbing. It makes me feel that this unprofessionalism might manifest itself somewhere in the preparation of his food.

He seems to be unable to take criticism when issues arise within his business. He appears to be a narcissist, because when said issues arise and the customer brings those issues to his attention, he has a reputation of blaming the customer for the issue instead of taking responsibility and accountability like most professional business owners would do in order to maintain the integrity of their brand, and to maintain a repeat customer for life.

You can verify this not only by reading my review and interaction with him, but also by reading the other previous Google Reviews by other customers and even how he responds to them. He has little experience in Public Relations (PR) and he reveals himself in his own verbiage in how he responds to other customer’s reviews.

Another great character flaw that he has that appears to go hand in hand with his narcissistic behavior is COMPULSIVE LYING. Not only does he find it difficult to take accountability & responsibility for hiccups that arise within his restaurant, but when those issues are raised he will use a string of lies in an attempt to support his narcissistic approach.

UNPROFESSIONALISM, NARCISSISM, and COMPULSIVE LYING has no place in business. No matter how good the food is, these traits are a recipe for Business Suicide. It is not by chance that he has nearly a 3.0 rating on GOOGLE REVIEWS. It is a direct reflection of how he conducts himself in his business and how he treats his customers.

Someone should inform this gentleman, that it is the customers who are the backbone of any successful business. If he is truly concerned about protecting the integrity of his brand, then he  should most certainly take care of the driving force behind his business success, which is his customers.

DETAILED EXPERIENCE WITH ALFREDO RUBIO TERIYAKI MADNESS GARNER NC:

On 09/19/2021 my girlfriend called to place a to go order for her family and myself. She did this on speaker phone while we was in transit to the restaurant. While on the phone she told Alfredo it would be 2 separate orders. He asked the name for each order and she gave the same name for both orders.

Upon arrival at the restaurant I go in the restaurant to pay for the food. Alfredo himself rung up the food, and gave 1 total price. I told him it was suppose to be 2 separate orders and I was going to pay with 2 different cards. He began to attempt to fumble with the register and it was clear that he was not savvy and had no clue how to segment the orders.

He then said he couldn’t do it and I’d have to make a single payment. He also said your wife only said it would be 1 order. I knew this was false because the phone was on speaker and I herd the entire encounter, as she was in the car beside me. I figured the real issue was he just didn’t know how to segment the order, and it wasn’t a big deal for me so I just paid with a single card. Any reimbursement could be handled on the backend outside of the restaurant.

The reason why I bring this up is because you will hear him lie in the video later which is provided at the bottom of this review. He will claim that when I came in the restaurant I didn’t want to pay for one of the orders. This isn’t even logical, because who orders food at a restaurant and doesn’t want to pay for it when they go to pick it up. This was his 2nd lie. His 1st lie was that my girlfriend placed a single order, when I clearly herd her tell him over the phone it would be 2 separate orders.

So after getting the food we took the food to her family and we proceeded home and ate our food. My girlfriend ate her food in the car on the way home. I ate my food when we got home. For the most part we got only vegetarian or vegan dishes, because we don’t eat meat. The only dish that we got which was meat was the Teriyaki Chicken. It was for her mother.

Later that night her mother phoned to see if we got sick from the food. My girlfriend informed her we didn’t. She explained how she did and it made her regurgitate. The next evening my girlfriend asked me if she should call the restaurant and let them know. I told her if you want a refund or replacement for your mother’s portion of the food go ahead. She called the restaurant and spoke with a female manager and informed her that her mother got sick from the Teriyaki Chicken. The manager stated she could call back in the morning and speak with the owner.

The next afternoon she called back. When she called she was on speaker phone yet again, and I was beside her. Alfredo stated he was waiting for her phone call and he had a form to fill out for this incident, so he was asking her questions outlined on the form. I personally think the owner Alfredo Rubio grew fearful and overreacted with this issue, thinking it was more serious than it actually was. I think he thought he needed to be in defense mode, so his approach and focus was on PROTECTING HIS BRAND, instead of just seeing how he could resolve the issue with the customer swiftly.

After my girlfriend got a little annoyed with all of the questions from the form he was filling out, she just made it clear that she just wanted a refund or replacement for her mother’s portion of the meal. The reason why she did this is because I told her, I think the owner think this is more serious than what it is, and this is why he is filling out this extensive form. I advised her to just let him know you just want a refund or replacement.

After she did this he denied giving a refund or replacing the food. Of course you can imagine how this made her feel. She grew extremely frustrated and directed her frustration at Alfredo. She advised him she would tell all of her family and friends about her experience at Teriyaki Madness, and how word of mouth can make or break a business. This is a fact and of course any customer reserves the right to share their encounter with local businesses, and that’s exactly why Google provides a review section for consumers to do exactly that. For whatever reason Alfredo Rubio refers to this as “threats” and you can hear him speak of threats in the video below, but this is the threat he is referring to.

You’ll hear him say in the video that he immediately offered to replace the food, but this is absolutely incorrect and another one of his compulsive lies. After she grew frustrated that he offered no remedy or immediate solution and corrected him on how a business professional should seek to make the customers happy; then and only then did he offer a replacement for the meal.

Also during this conversation he stated that his restaurant has been in operation since 2019 and no one has ever complained about the Teriyaki Chicken making them sick. This is yet another one of his compulsive lies. I learned this after this encounter. I began to read through his Google Reviews and I found a customer from 3 months ago who stated they had the exact same issue, specifically as it relates to the chicken making them sick. That user’s name is “Ki Adorno” I have provided a screenshot here for your viewing pleasure and so that you can see that this business owner has a track record for this type of behavior.

The video recording manifested because when my girlfriend went to pickup the meal replacement, he stated that she nor none of her family could return to the restaurant, and that it was “for their safety”. The franchise agreement should have came with more than just the name and an operational blueprint. They should have all owners go through a course on how to handle and remedy issues with customers. If they did it’s as if this guy missed that class.

This guy didn’t initially want to give the phone number to corporate, didn’t want to give his business card, and didn’t want to remedy the issue by giving a refund or replacement for the meal. When a customer comes to him and says their family member got sick from the chicken he prepared at his establishment his way of handling it is by banning the customer from returning to his restaurant for the customer’s  so called “safety”.

He apparently calls it threats when a customer says they will inform others about their mother getting sick their and that he didn’t initially want to remedy the issue by offering a refund or replacement meal. Maybe he also considers it a threat when a customer says they will contact Corporate about the issue. This guy completely inflamed this issue and made it BIGGER than what it needed to be. Because he is blinded by his own narcissistic and egotistical nature, he doesn’t even realize how his actions or lack of action is actually leading to the destruction of his brand integrity in the local Garner area.

Typically when a customer returns to a restaurant, about an issue with their order at the restaurant, a respectable and dignified member of management or the restaurant owner themselves, will seek to resolve the matter by offering a refund or replacement for the order.

Apparently in the mind of Alfredo Rubio, this does not strike him as standard business practices. Instead he think it’s better to deny any responsibility for the food he prepares in his restaurant, and then refuses to service the customer in his restaurant in the future and call it protecting the customer.

Contacting Corporate or sharing your experiences with local businesses is the right of any consumer and is far from a threat. The customer even has the right and ability to make a complaint with the Health Department if they feel a business in the food industry is not measuring up to Food Standards.
